Hi Sugar!

The last event I attended as Miss Andouille was the Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival and Queen's Pageant in New Iberia on Saturday, September 28. I arrived Saturday morning and checked into the hotel. I then joined the other Visiting Queens for Day Events. We started off at a sugar cane field. Then we toured a museum dedicated to the history of sugar cane in the New Iberia area. We went to a sugar refinery and learned about the process of refining the cane. We even got to see a warehouse where sugar is stored. There was a huge mountain of sugar! Finally, we ended our day at a home on the refinery grounds where we ate raw sugar cane.

That night, the Visiting Queens attended the pageant. King Sucrose was announced, then the competition began. Each of the contestants was beautiful. Meredith Conger, a former Jambalaya Festival Queen, was crowned Louisiana Queen Sugar. Everyone was very happy for her. After the pageant, a ball was held in her honor. There was tons of food, music, and fun. I enjoyed spending time with the representatives from St. John and St. Charles Parish. By the time we had to leave, I was exhausted!

The next day, the Visiting Queens rode in the Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival Parade. We saw so many people lining the streets and passed through downtown, as well as the festival grounds. It was lots of fun! I thoroughly enjoyed my time in New Iberia. It was a great way to end my year of travels! Congratulations to the newly crowned Queen Sugar.
