40th Andouille Festival

The 40th Andouille Festival was held the weekend of October 18-20 at the St. John Parish Community Center. Since the festival had been cancelled the year before, it was a very exciting event. I was so proud to reign over the festival with my Teen Queen, Heather, and the newly crowned 2013 Andouille Queens, Elise and Saige. I arrived at the festival Friday night to hang out and listen to the band. I spent most of the night working the Sweet booth that raises money for the Andouille Pageant.

Saturday was full of fun. We started our morning off at the Gumbo Cook-Off. Elise and I each gave a reporter an interview, then all four of us tasted the gumbos in the competition. We spent some time roaming around the festival, checking out the craft booths, watching the dance teams perform, and browsing the food selection.

Later on, we went over to the main stage to listen to the band playing. They were hilarious and an absolute blast! We danced and sang, then they invited us on the stage. Elise and Saige even played the tambourines. When we decided to get down off the stage, the band followed us!

That afternoon, I entered the Andouille Eating Contest. Elise and I were the only female contestants. It was definitely not as easy as you may think. That could be because the andouille was so delicious, I didn't want to eat it quickly... I wanted to savor every bite! The rest of the evening was spent listening to the bands, eating the amazing food, and hanging out with friends.

Sunday morning was the annual Jazz Brunch. A live jazz band played while we ate delicious andouille-related breakfast. Each of the Queens was presented, and the sponsors were honored. I spent the rest of Sunday with the other Queens. We also helped out at the Baby Andouille Pageant. The festival was definitely one of my favorite things about my reign. It has and will always hold a special place in my heart.
