How Sweet It Is!

On Saturday, June 22, my Teen Queen, Heather, and I traveled to Lutcher for the St. James Parish Sugar Pageant. We were asked to bring a sweet that represented our festival, so my mom helped me put together a cocoa krispy smokehouse. It was pretty funny!

Once we arrived at the St. James Parish Welcome Center, the Queens all played a really funny game... Each of us had a bowl with two gummy worms in it. The bowl was full of whipped cream. The object of the game was to eat both of the gummy worms without using your hands. Needless to say, there were a LOT of Queens with fluffy, white beards afterward! It had been raining pretty heavily for a while, but luckily, it stopped just as we were ready to go to the sugar refinery. We visited Louisiana Sugar Refinery in Gramercy. We learned a little about the refinery during a slideshow then toured it. We even got to see some old houses still standing from a time when people actually lived on the grounds. The best part is that they allowed all of us to keep our hard hats. It was a lot of fun!

Later that night, the pageant began. The theme was Phantom of the Opera. The stage was so elegant. Opening number was very glamorous. Each of the contestants in the Miss and Teen divisions was so beautiful. It was definitely not easy to tell who the winner would be. Both the newly crowned Queens seemed like such sweet (Pun intended!) girls. Congratulations to both of them!
