Nothing like Swamp Pop!

On Saturday, July 20, my Teen Queen, Heather, and I traveled to Gonzales for the Swamp Pop Music Festival. The festival is a swamp pop concert that raises money for cystic fibrosis. As Visiting Queens, we started off by introducing ourselves. Then we participated in a jambalaya eating contest. I scarfed down my jambalaya but was not fast enough! Two finalists went head-to-head with even more jambalaya. Baton Rouge's Outstanding Teen ended up taking home the title! After that, we sold "roses" to raise money for cystic fibrosis. The "roses" went on the Rose Wall. We had a great time and were so happy to hear that we had raised over $700. Not bad for a bunch of Queens!

St. John Parish Independence Day Celebration

On Wednesday, July 3, my Teen Queen, Heather, and I spent the day participating in St. John Parish's Independence Day Celebration events. The day started off at the Louisiana Army National Guard 1084th Transportation Company with a Veterans Luncheon. There were over 500 in attendance! Parish President Natalie Robottom, along with several other distinguished guests, spoke. The baked chicken served for lunch was delicious. Heather and I had a wonderful time!

Later that evening, Heather and I headed over the St. Peter's Catholic Church, where the east bank Celebration was taking place. We were interviewed on TV, played a trivia game with some children, and mingled with everyone there. At 9 PM, the fireworks went off! We had so much fun spending time with the people of our parish!

I hope everyone had a really awesome Independence Day! It is important to remember the real reason that we celebrate: To honor freedom and those who sacrifice so much to fight for our freedom. God Bless America!
